On Thursday evening, I flew home for a quick weekend visit. I knew it would be a good weekend, but like all my visits home, it would be exciting, exhausting, and super busy. As a www.whitewhine.com comment, I would like to point out that the TV system on the plane was shot, which meant I couldn’t watch TV. Worst EVER! (Just kidding- I was okay with it :D).
I went to visit Guelph on Friday. Remember my friend Dan? Well, he’s still recovering from his hiatal hernia. I wanted to drop by to see how he was doing post-surgery and how his recovery was coming along. I had every intention of greeting him with a punch to his face, but we hugged instead and chatted for a bit. He’s doing well and will be yoga-ing, running and adventuring in no time. In addition to the awesome card he mailed me, he also had a lovely T-shirt for me as part of my gift. I will wear it proudly. It’s from The Oatmeal (Best. Website. Ever!), and his post here was on the word “Literally“. In summary, there’s a ridiculous quote from some guy named Jerry Falwell: “If we do not act now, homosexuals will own America! If you and I do not speak up now, this homosexual steamroller will literally crush all decent men, women, and children who get in its way… and our nation will pay a terrible price!” This is his literal depiction of a homosexual steamroller… and now I have the T-shirt! Moral of the story: Stay outta the way. The gays will crush you! It was also Dan’s 36th birthday a few weeks back and I got him a little something. You can read all about his awesome gift here!

Next, I was able to meet up with my friend Rob. He is powering through his PhD thesis with hopes (and confidence) that he will done by the end of the year. It has something to do with molecular something or other, protein structure this and that, and informatics bric a brac. Good luck, Rob- you’ll rock the next few months and complete that beast of a thesis! We went to Williams in Guelph and caught up for a bit. I ate lunch while I was there, which is definitely a noteworthy event. Afterwards, it was back to the GTA.

Then my sister and I drove to Mississauga to visit my second cousins Soraya and Mikaela. It was great to catch up with Shane and Maria and play with the kids. I hadn’t seen them for a while, and it’s always a fun and energetic time when I visit. They had made birthday cards for me, showed me their artwork and dances, and we played Just Dance Kids for the Wii. They have such big personalities and it’s such a joy to visit them. They’re so full of life!

After the goodbyes, I was off to see a late showing of Harry Potter… again… but this time with my friend Shanna. We had seen many of the HP movies together, and we knew we had to conclude an era by watching this epic movie together. It was fantastic! Friday was a great, but extremely tiring, day. The next day I would be attending a wedding, which was the main reason for my visit. I love weddings!
