Finally, I Tried Scuba Diving!

I’m going to take a detour from the chronological nature of my posts and jump ahead to write a brief entry about today. I flew back to Calgary after a great, yet super quick, weekend at home. The weekend was jam-packed with visiting friends and cousins, a wedding, a day of cooking Trini food with my parents, and quality time with the family at the CNE.  I ended up getting 2.5 hours of sleep last night, but no rest for the weary! A while back I had booked a Discover Scuba Diving class at the Aqua Sport Scuba Centre in Marda Loop for this evening. I almost cancelled because I’m sooo tired right now, but after some discussions with friends, they made me feel guilty about cancelling.  So… I decided to go. Thanks folks (you know who you are) for guilting me into going because it was fantastic! 

Did you know that SCUBA stands for ‘self contained underwater breathing apparatus’? I didn’t, but now I do :). We also learned a lot of the basics, from wearing the scuba gear, to using safety signals (safety first!), to controlling buoyancy and equalizing pressure. Breathing was the most interesting for me and it took me some time to feel comfortable with it. But after a short time, the entire group was underwater, swimming around and playing with frisbees and rocketships. I would definitely do it again! In fact, I have plans to get my PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certification at some point… you know, to prepare for some diving in Central America. The Discover Scuba Diving class was definitely a great and fun introduction to this aquatic activity! Also, ‘Go Scuba Diving’ was on my list of 30 before 30. I had crossed it off beforehand since I had scheduled it before turning 30, but wasn’t able to get an appointment until now. But after this evening, I can officially cross it off the list! Whoohoo!

Speaking of 30th birthday… my brothers and sister bought me a Kobo e-Reader! My siblings are so awesome, and it’s a fantastic gift! Love you guys :)…. barf. In addition to The Hunger Games trilogy, I have the complete Harry Potter series uploaded! Like, how amazing is that, right?
