Paul and I decided to conquer another mountain today. But that’s becoming expected- another weekend with fantastic weather means we had to hit the mountains. The victim this time? Wasootch Peak in Kananaskis. It’s 2400 metres high, and there’s an elevation gain of 900 metres. The trailhead is located on the side of the road on Highway 40 close to the Kananaskis Village turn off. After parking in the ditch, we readied ourselves for a day of adventure and classic shenanigans!
It was another mountain with some pretty steep uphill climbing and some scree slope scrambling near the end (which made for some awesome scree skiing on the way down!). The effort was definitely worth the incredible views at the summit. Sergeant Stroker made an appearance, and he’s clearly becoming a bit more settled and relaxed on these mountain peaks!
We both had our fair share of ‘nanigans. Whenever Paul’s hat comes off, it’s a riot. And hiking is always a fashion show with me!
After the descent, we took a look-see at nearby Mount Lorette Ponds. It’s great for fishing and there are some nice day use areas. The ponds themselves are so clear… and very pretty 🙂
We started at 11:00 am and reached the peak at 1:30. After an hour of eating lunch, relaxing and taking photos, we flew down the scree slope in 15 minutes, descended through the trail through the forest, and returned to the car at 4:15 pm. I think we’re becoming a bit spoiled: With a fairly straight-forward trail and a return trip of 5 hours and 15 minutes, Wasootch Peak is considered one of our easier and shorter hikes! Wasootch Peak… we conquered you!
