The Zombie Apocalypse has finally occurred! Either that, or I used a really cool app called Dead Yourself. The Walking Dead is one of my favourite shows on TV, and this app was just too fun to not try out! I can’t wait for it to start back up on February 10th!!

Oh my! Thank you, Dr. Beth :)

Earlier this week, I opened up my mailbox to find a package. It was from my good friend Dr. Beth! Beth is my shorter, whiter, female twin from Vancouver. She’s also an evaluator extraordinaire, PhD genius, soon-to-be MBA, and the internet’s leading authority on radicalized geese. True story. Well, in this package was a surprise. A “Happy New Year” present! Actually, it was meant as a Christmas gift, but apparently the US Postal Service messed up. But no worries- it arrived! Thanks Dr. Beth!
And what was the present? First, a moose stress ball from her MBA Core Program company, D2NA. So cute and squishy. And second… a smiling normal distribution Christmas ornament, complete with +/- 1 and 2 standard deviations. Absolutely amazing and filled with so much nerdery!
I love the end of Beth’s note as well: “All the best in 2013! Here’s to a year of exciting adventures and just generally being our awesome selves!”
I don’t disagree with you, Dr. Beth. Not one bit.

“The Chance of a Lifetime”

Tonight I decided to go through some e-mails. I’m actually down to 40 in my inbox now, which is some kind of record for me I’m sure. I stumbled upon a blog link for bestselling author Seth Godin‘s blog. Having written 14 books and started many (mostly failed) companies, he’s definitely accumulated some wisdom over the years. The blog post that was sent to me was titled “The chance of a lifetime“. I recommend the read, but in the end, there are two passages that resonate with me. I’m writing them here to remind me. Today was a day in which, for whatever the reason, I felt a bit down. These quotes came at a good time :).
“The thing is, we … live in a world that’s filled with opportunity. In fact, we have more than an opportunity — we have an obligation. An obligation to spend our time doing great things. To find ideas that matter and to share them. To push ourselves and the people around us to demonstrate gratitude, insight, and inspiration. To take risks and to make the world better by being amazing.”
“You get to make a choice. You can remake that choice every day, in fact. It’s never too late to choose optimism, to choose action, to choose excellence. The best thing is that it only takes a moment — just one second — to decide.”
Tony Horton, So We Meet Again…
“Curse you Tony Horton and your P90X!” I believe I start every single P90X-related post this way. And I always have high hopes for a successful 90 days. However, this time I’m going to be more realistic. The fact of the matter is: I have an injured foot, as well as weird chronic pain in my right arm. I’m currently seeing a physiotherapist for these issues, and she’s applying IMS (intramuscular stimulation) techniques to help resolve the problem. I’m hopeful, but I know I have to take it easy. Tomorrow is Day 1, and I may only be able to complete Day 1 before finding another mode of exercise for 90 days. I may make it half way before another part of my body decides to break. Either way, I’m going to do my best and move forward with my 2013 goal- to make exercise and fitness a priority, in whatever capacity that is. Let’s Bring IT! And good luck to my bro who is doing his Insanity challenge, starting tomorrow. We’ve got this, bro!
Death of My Macbook Pro
It was a day that was a long time coming. On New Year’s Eve, my laptop of many years died. Poor MacBook Pro. Poor files that I just lost. It’s kind of funny though- I finally decided to do a comprehensive backup of my system via Time Machine on the same day. I organized all of my files, set up automatic Time Machine backups, and then left it for the night. When I checked it on New Year’s Day, there was a brief moment of life, and then it was dead :(. And the Time Machine backup never worked. Woe is me.
But there’s a silver lining in all of this. I now have a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display! Apparently, this is a fancy piece of equipment that can help me fulfill all of my advanced, computer-y processing needs, like checking my e-mail, viewing my calendar, watching YouTube videos and writing in my blog. It’ll do.
What’s the lesson of the day? Don’t leave an open water bottle in the same bag as your computer, because once you spill it all over the MagSafe connector and motherboard of a MacBook, it’s all down hill from there…
