On September 7 of last year, a bunch of nerds and I hiked Mount Yamnuska. So when I was thinking about a hike I could do this past Saturday, I figured Yamnuska would be a great one to revisit. I love Yamnuska because it’s close to Calgary, it’s a nice hike with some interesting scenery, and it has a bit of a scramble leading to an incredible view at the top. From Highway 1, Yamnuska is very distinctive. Its flat face and sheer presence are difficult to ignore. Last year I had heard about a chain somewhere along the route that was necessary to traverse the side of the mountain, but we never found it. Today, September 4th, marks a very special day. That’s right folks. It’s Beyonce’s 30th birthday! That makes at least two awesome people who have turned 30 this year ;). Coincidence? I think not. And yes… this historic occasion deserved an entire blog posting. It’s no secret that I’m a huge Beyonce fan :). Happy Birthday Beyonce!

 

Shark Night 3D!

Shark Night 3D… it was exactly what I expected it to be. Hands down, the best worst campy movie I’ve seen in quite some time. Horrible writing, sub-par acting, a story that would make Oscar cry… and yet, with all that said, it was super entertaining, provided thrills in 3D, and was quite a fun ride. And how could it not be… it’s all about killer sharks in 3D! Pure entertainment…

A Wedding, Cooking, and a 1500+ Calorie WHAT?

This past weekend was quite an eventful one. The main reason for going home was to attend a wedding. My good friend Marie’s brother Chris was getting married to his bride Lisa, and it was an honour to be invited and to be present for their special day. I had never met Lisa before, but after seeing them together, they definitely make a great couple! Congratulations Chris and Lisa! The ceremony was lovely- Chris looked handsome, Lisa was stunning, and as they recited their vows, it was obvious to everyone in attendance that they are very much in love. The reception took place at the elegant Capitol Event Theatre in Toronto, and it was decorated beautifully. Chris and Lisa had movie-like posters on display as we entered the theatre. I’m going to take another detour and write about two Saturdays ago. I finally went white water rafting on the Kicking Horse River near Golden, BC. I have been wanting to do this for quite some time, so when I found out a friend was organizing a rafting trip through Canadian Rockies Rafting and they had space for me, I was totally there!
