My bum… is numb.
That was my second thought once Robbie and I completed the 21.8 km Legacy Trail from Canmore to Banff. I haven’t been on my bike enough lately to comfortably endure that distance.
My first thought was: We did it!
Staying active, both on and off the road.

That’s the sound my lower back decided to make when I was washing my face last week. You read that right: Washing. My. Face! I mean, I knew once I turned 30 that things would start to fall apart. Limbs would hurt more. Running would require lots of stretching afterwards. My body would require more TLC. But for heaven’s sake, washing my face is not a strenuous activity! In truth, I think the intensity of a weekend filled with hiking put some strain on my lower back, and washing my face was just the straw that broke my back… *sigh*. Of course, my right knee has been a nuisance and my upper back has tweaked more than I’d like. The status quo for me these days includes an injured [insert injury location here]. Clearly something had to be done! But what?? Continue reading “Beachbody’s PiYo Starts Today!”

My alarm went off at 5 am, which pretty much means one of a few things: an airport pickup; a crazy long day hike in the Icefields Parkway; or, a race.
In this case, today was race day! The Calgary Marathon, to be precise.
Only the Calgary Marathon could celebrate its birthday with over 15000 people. After all, it’s Canada’s longest running marathon, and I’m sure people flocked from near, far and wide just to run it. My friend Shari and I knew we couldn’t miss the event, so we signed up for the Jugo Juice 10k. At 7 am, the two of us, joined by a supportive Robbie, headed over to the Stampede Grounds. As we arrived, the energy from the ultra marathoners (50k), marathoners and half marathoners as they crossed the starting line was amazing. Spectators cheered and whistled. It had been a long time since I ran at the Calgary Marathon, and I forgot how the air of positivity and determination is infectious. We were pumped! Continue reading “The Calgary Marathon Turns 50!”

Is there anything better than running around the streets of Calgary in your underwear??
Yes there is! It’s running around the streets of Calgary in your underwear for a GREAT CAUSE!
Once again, I’ve signed up for the 2014 Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Underwear Affair Booty Hunt race to help “Fight Cancers Below the Waist”. So let’s kick those cancers, such as prostate, ovarian and colon cancer, to the curb! The Booty Hunt race on June 7th is a scavenger hunt around the great city of Calgary. Last year, my team and I had to participate in many activities such as mastering yoga moves, getting our hair coloured, convincing strangers to take a jumping shot, and completing other random Amazing-Race-like tasks that had us sprinting to all ends of downtown. Oh how fun! Continue reading “The Underwear Affair: Don’t You Hate Pants?”

Today was an exciting day! It marked the 45th day of the 90-Day Fitness and Accountability Challenge– so we’re halfway there! But today, something else happened. Something was delivered to my door. Something exciting!
Since the beginning of January, I have been a member of an incredibly motivating challenge group for P90X3 and other Beachbody programs. With the intensity of following a 90-Day Beachbody DVD program, I needed all the accountability I could get… and it’s been great. So great, in fact, that after contemplating for many many years, I decided Continue reading “Coaching and Stepping It Up!”
