OMG Beyonce…

Beyonce-1Here is an actual e-mail I sent to my family. My love for Beyonce is so real that I needed to inform them.

Fam:

As you may or may not know (if you’ve listened to the radio, saw the news, or glanced at my FB feed this morning)… Beyonce released an album this morning [should be “last night”- oops]. Excuse me!?

What’s awesome about it is that no one knew it was coming- she never released a single, and there was no official promo for it. She just released it on iTunes with no fanfare. She’s calling it a “visual album”, because when you download it, you get all 14 songs, AND you get all of the music videos for them! That’s right- she managed to film all of the music videos with such high production value… and no one ever knew! And it’s already #1, selling 80K in the first 3 hours. Crazy! Anyway, I saw this and thought it was funny…

I may or may not have been a Shockonce this morning, having jumped out of bed once I heard it on the radio to immediately check online if it was true. And then I shelled out 16 bucks for the album.

Best purchase ever.

And the album is good. Really good!

The Decluttering Divas

Decluttering-10I would consider myself a bit of a minimalist. There have been many days where I’m sitting in my place and I look over at something. The side table. The TV. A decorative item. An article of clothing. And I think, “Do I even need you?”. My tendency is to want to get rid of most things I own. Unless, of course, it’s outdoor gear. I may be prone to ordering and keeping lots of outdoor gear.

Last week, unbeknownst to me, some of my friends were in the infancy of creating a group devoted to decluttering. The idea was that by decluttering from now until the new year, we could start the new year fresh instead of making this task a ‘resolution’. I listened to the idea and thought it was brilliant! So I became part of the group and soon The Decluttering Divas were formed. I may or may not have had something to do with the name.

In our possession is a list of 28 decluttering tasks. I’m not sure where this list came from or I would source it, but the first two items are as follows:

1. Declutter Clothes: If you haven’t worn it in a year, toss it. If you don’t love it, toss it. Do you really need that many t-shirts?

2. Declutter Papers: Grab your files and get to work. Sort out anything you don’t need anymore. If you are keeping it for memory’s sake, maybe a quick digital picture is enough to preserve it? Great targets: old magazines, instruction manuals for devices (most can be found on the internet), pamphlets you will never read, etc.

Even though I own so little clothing, I have been able to identify many items to give away. And in terms of decluttering papers, I’ve been quite good at keeping those to a minimum, though I did find something that really had me scratching my head. My 2010 Beyoncé calendar. Gasp, what to do! I immediately texted two of the other Decluttering Divas. One suggested I keep it in my office for posterity. Or use it for wrapping paper. The other suggested, rightfully so, that I should toss it. Sigh. I did take a digital picture for memory’s sake.

By getting rid of this Beyoncé calendar, I have truly lived up to the Decluttering Divas name. Nevertheless, it’s a sad day.

A moment of silence for the Beyoncé calendar :(

My Shocking Top 25 Playlist!

According to iTunes, this is my favourite song. Ever.

Maybe I have a problem. Or maybe I just know what I like. I was going through my iTunes playlist recently and doing techie type of things. By techie, I mean syncing my iphone to my playlist (…I know… this is advanced stuff people). I clicked on my “Top 25 Most Played” playlist and had a good chuckle. Not that it’s any surprise whatsoever, but Beyoncé was on the list. Many times. In fact, “Halo”, which is probably my favourite Beyoncé song, was at number one with an astonishing 413 plays. And apparently, I’ve proclaimed 381 times that I don’t want to be a broken-hearted girl.

Wow. But this really isn’t a surprise.

Looking at the rest of the Top 25, they were all songs from strong, powerful and independent female vocalists- Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Adele, Katy Perry (Firework- I still love that song!… to remind me that I’m a firework), Sara Bareilles, Florence and The Machine, and Ingrid Michaelson. So if anyone hasn’t figured it out by now, I’m proud to say that I’m a huge fan of strong, powerful and independent female vocalists. And I love Beyoncé. The End.

Happy 30th Birthday Beyonce!

Today, September 4th, marks a very special day. That’s right folks. It’s Beyonce’s 30th birthday! That makes at least two awesome people who have turned 30 this year ;). Coincidence? I think not. And yes… this historic occasion deserved an entire blog posting. It’s no secret that I’m a huge Beyonce fan :). Happy Birthday Beyonce!
