Today’s mountain view comes from the summit of Mount St. Piran, high above the water and crowds of Lake Louise. With rewarding views of the lake below, Mount Fairview, and a snow-capped Mount Temple, what’s there not to love?
As an introvert, I try to venture out to the mountains for a solo thinky trip at least once a summer. It allows me to be at one with myself and my thoughts while surrounded by pristine natural beauty. This hike was one of those trips.

I couldn’t help but feel gratitude. As I hiked toward the peak, I felt gratitude for the relationships I have in my life and the ones that have faltered, for each encounter presents incredible learning. I thought about how I have a job I like (most of the time!) in a city so close to the Rockies. I reflected on how I am physically able to ascend mountains and gaze upon beautiful vistas, and I’m thankful for that. Being in the mountains with views so stunning also reminded me to never become jaded to the fact that the world is a ridiculous playground waiting to be explored.
And I thought about Beyoncé, for without her “I Am…” album on constant repeat for most of my thinky roadtrips, I would not be able to butcher the words to “Halo” at the top of my lungs.
It’s important to take pause once in a while. Unplug. Be thinky. And reflect on all those things for which we are grateful.

Looks like it was a beautiful hike. I like this post. I think it’s nice that the hike made you feel grateful. It is a feeling we all sometimes forget. 🙂
