Post written December 21: I started the day with porridge. I figured that after the horrible stomach bug, I should eat something bland but full of energy. Thankfully it did not upset my stomach again, as we had a 400 metre climb to the Hotel Everest View.
This was acclimatization day #1, so after the hike to the hotel we would head back to Namche early afternoon. I’m not going to say it was easy, but it sure was beautiful. We ascended the rocky steps of Namche Bazaar, crossed the snowy Namche airport and headed through bushes and shrubs. I can’t quite figure out how to describe the scenery in a way that adequately articulates it, but I will say it was awesome in the most awe-struck sort of way. The shadows and hues of blue down the valley were breathtaking. The snowy peaks surrounding us… also breathtaking. And then a view point. Mount Everest in the distance with a small cloud at its summit, though perhaps it was a crazy amount of blowing snow. Other mountains in view: the South Col, Lhotse, Nupste, and Ama Dablam. We all stopped for a while, taking photos of the beauty surrounding us.

Then we headed to the Hotel Everest View (3880 metres) a short distance away. And oh how civilized! It’s not what I expected of a hotel in the mountains. Clearly it was well-built and set up for many visitors. Picnic tables lined the balcony, all with an unobstructed view of the main attraction. We all sat, eating nuts and drinking tea. Honestly, doubts have entered my mind regarding my ability to complete this hike given my current state. Like I told myself beforehand, if I’m advised by the guide that I should descend, then so be it. While sipping my ginger tea at the hotel, I thought: Well at the very least, I got to experience this much, and saw Mount Everest first hand. Of course, I’m a trooper and will do what I can to make it to Everest Base Camp itself!

The pictures look amazing which reminds me that you still have many pictures to show me 🙂
